Here is a deeper dive into the ingredients in Sacred Rose Organics "Sea & Soil Face Mask" :
Bentonite Clay
Bentonite Clay is a type of absorbent clay formed from volcanic ash that has aged and weathered in the presence of water. Its main component is montmorillonite, a mineral that gives it its detoxifying properties. It forms when volcanic ash decomposes over time, often in ancient seabeds or lakes where the ash interacted with water and minerals. It is rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, and iron, which vary based on the location. Bentonite Clay draws out and exfoliates impurities and toxins from your skin. We ethically source ours from the United States in Wyoming from a veteran and woman-owned business dedicated to lifting people out of poverty and providing job training to those with severe disabilities.
White Kaolin Clay
White Kaolin Clay is a soft, fine clay primarily composed of the mineral kaolinite, which forms from the weathering of feldspar-rich rocks, especially granite. It forms when granite rocks break down over millions of years in the presence of water and mild acidic conditions. Kaolin deposits usually occur in tropical or subtropical regions with heavy rainfall that promotes this type of weathering. The whiteness comes from purity and lack of iron oxides; high-purity kaolin is very bright and fine. White Kaolin Clay is considered one of the gentlest clays. It’s especially good for sensitive, dry, or mature skin, but works for almost all skin types. White Kaolin Clay doesn’t overly strip moisture, a deep cleanser, calms irritation which can be great for acne, and very balancing for the skin in cellular repair. We ethically source our white Kaolin Clay from the United States.
Activated charcoal
Activated charcoal (or activated carbon) doesn’t occur naturally; it’s made by processing carbon-rich materials at high heat to create a porous structure that traps toxins. Our activated charcoal is made from coconut shells. These coconut shells are first carbonized (heated in the absence of oxygen) and then activated using steam to create millions of tiny pores, increasing its surface area for adsorption. Activated charcoal is widely used for its adsorptive (toxin-binding) properties on the body. Activated charcoal helps unclog pores, reduce excess oil, and prevent breakouts. We ethically source our activated Charcoal from the United States.
Diatomaceous Earth
Diatomaceous Earth is a naturally occurring, powdery substance made from the fossilized remains of microscopic algae called diatoms. These diatoms have silica-rich shells, which create a fine, abrasive, and porous powder when fossilized and ground. Diatomaceous earth is silica-rich therefore it supports collagen production, improving skin elasticity, stronger nails, and healthier hair. Diatomaceous earth contains trace minerals like calcium, magnesium and iron that are all beneficial for the skins health. Diatomaceous earth is also claimed to kill parasites and bacteria also, making it excellent for detoxification. We ethically source our Diatomaceous Earth from the United States of America, in Nevada where it is responsibly mined and packaged in Georgia.
